Barrio Logan Murals & Mercado: Art, History, Tortillas (Beta - Not actual listing)
Difficulty: Easy. Suitable for everyone — no fitness or experience needed.
Beta - Not actual listing. Chicano Park’s world-famous murals with the context they deserve, plus the neighborhood’s best masa — a walking tour of living culture.
About this experience
Chicano Park holds the largest collection of outdoor murals in the country, painted on freeway pylons the community fought to reclaim in 1970. You can see them in ten minutes. Understanding them takes a guide who grew up eating pan dulce two blocks away. We walk the park mural by mural — the history, the symbolism, the artists, the takeover that started it all. Then the neighborhood: a tortilleria pressing masa the way it’s been done for three generations, a gallery run by the muralists’ grandkids, and the bakery that fuels it all. Includes tastings at two stops. This is a story of art and activism told with love by someone whose family lived it. All ages welcome; about 2 miles of flat walking.
